LVM commands return error message 'Configuration setting "activation/xxxxxxx" unknown'

Issue

  • Added a 10GB hard disk to RHEL6.5 server on VMware. When executing lvm commands like pvs or lvs, following output is seen before the actual output of the lvm command:
# pvs
  Configuration setting "activation/thin_check_executable" unknown.
  Configuration setting "activation/thin_check_options" unknown.
  • Disk appears OK and available.

  • When executing lvm commands, errors are seen after updating to RHEL 6.5

# lvs
  Configuration setting "activation/thin_check_executable" unknown.
  Configuration setting "activation/thin_check_options" unknown.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.5 (RHEL)
  • RHEL Server as Vmware guest
  • lvm2-2.02.100-8.el6.x86_64
  • LVM
