Installation of IPA client does not register DNS entry

  • IPA client is installed with command

    ipa-client-install --domain idm.example.com --server server1.idm.example.com --hostname host1.clients.example.com

  • The installation script returned an error indicated the failure to update DNS record

    Failed to update DNS records.
Missing A/AAAA record(s) for host host1.clients.example.com

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8
  • Red Hat Identity Management (IdM) / FreeIPA
    • ipa-server
    • ipa-client
