How to enable faillog with pam_tally2

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • In Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6, faillog no longer exists. This is because Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 makes pam_tally2 the default, which no longer uses faillog as pam_tally did.
  • How to get the 'Maximum' failure setting per user using pam_tally2?
  • Running 'faillog' returns nothing in two RHEL5.4 systems

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 5, 6 and 7
  • pam_tally2
