Error message "Failed to create session: Start job for unit user-XXX.slice failed with 'canceled'" seen in the journal

Checking the journal, we can see error messages such as the one below:
[...] sudo[XXX]: pam_systemd(sudo:session): Failed to create session: Start job for unit user-USERID.slice failed with 'canceled' -
There seems to be no consequence on the system stability
Environment
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 8
- systemd, versions before 239-51.el8
- PAM aware login tools (sudo, ssh, su)
