ReaR fails to recreate LVM volume groups when volume groups are stored on multiple disks

Issue

  • When recovering a system with LVM logical volumes configured in Raid or a volume group is stored on multiple disks, restoring the disk layout fails

    Start system layout restoration.
    Disk '/dev/vda': creating 'msdos' partition table
    Disk '/dev/vda': creating partition number 1 with name 'primary'
    Disk '/dev/vda': creating partition number 2 with name 'primary'
    Creating LVM PV /dev/vdb
    Creating LVM PV /dev/vdc
    Creating LVM PV /dev/vda2
    Creating LVM VG 'data'; Warning: some properties may not be preserved...
    The disk layout recreation script failed
    
  • The following message is seen when executing rear -dD recover (Full Debug mode)

    +++ Print 'Creating LVM VG '\''datavg'\''; Warning: some properties may not be preserved...'
    +++ '[' -e /dev/datavg ']'
    +++ lvm vgcreate --physicalextentsize 4096k datavg /dev/vdb /dev/vdc
      A volume group called datavg already exists.
