Ext4 filesystem resize error - resize2fs: Filesystem has unsupported feature(s)

Issue

  • You wish to resize an ext4 file system however, after extending the underlying storage device successfully, the file system resize fails with following errors:
[root@server ~]\# resize2fs /dev/mapper/VolGroup00-LogVol02  
resize2fs 1.39 (29-May-2006)  
resize2fs: Filesystem has unsupported feature(s) while trying to open /dev/mapper/VolGroup00-LogVol02  
Couldn't find valid filesystem superblock.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5, release 5.6 and later.
  • ext4 filesystem.
