Which LDAP client should I use for authentication on RHEL: SSSD, nscd, nslcd, or sudo?

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • We use LDAP for authentication/authorization with pam_ldap/sudo on Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 5, which of sssd/nscd/nslcd/sudo should we use for Red Hat Enterprise Linux?
  • What config files will be used?

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6, 7 and 8
  • LDAP directory access for authentication (i.e. 'Is the user who he pretends to be?') and authorization (i.e. 'What is the user allowed to do?', 'Does he have access?')
