After kernel/initramfs update, the system is dropping to the dracut shell, and LVM commands not found

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • When LVM is used for the root filesystem and the LVM module is missing from the initramfs, then dracut will fail to find the LV(s) specified on the grub kernel command line and LVM commands from the dracut prompt will fail:
dracut:/# lvm pvs
sh: lvm: command not found
dracut:/#
  • LVM module is missing from initramfs while installing a new kernel or updating the existing initramfs image.
# lsinitrd |grep lvm |wc -l
