How can I disable Automatic System Recovery (ASR) on HP systems

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • When setting up kdump to capture a vmcore you would generally want to disable ASR as well so it does not restart the machine while the vmcore is being written.
  • On a HP system with a large amount of RAM and I/O and with ASR enabled, kdump failed to produce a vmcore because the ASR timed out and rebooted the machine before the vmcore capture was finished.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux
  • HP hardware
