System Hangs during VMware Snapshot operation

Issue

  • We've been experiencing system hangs on our RHEL 5.4 (kernel 2.6.18-164.el5) systems during VMware Snapshot operations. We've been working with VMware over the past week on high priority support calls. They've come back to us referencing a Red Hat bug as noted in one of their articles:

  • VMware noted this kb article

  • This references a Red Hat bug (768304) fixed in 2.6.32-358 (RH 6.4)

  • Has the Fix been back-ported to RHEL 5.4? If at all possible we need to fix the issue on RHEL 5.4

  • Does this Bug Fix actually solve our problem? This has yet to be proven.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.4
  • VMWare ESXi 5.1
