Why do I receive a warning message that my system is already registered with a different subscription management service?

Issue

  • Either of the following error messages are reported when attempting to register a system:

    WARNING

You're about to register your system with the RHN Classic Entitlement Platform.
But, You're already registered with the RHN Certificate-Based Entitlement Platform.

Except for a few cases, Red Hat recommends customers only register with one Entitlement Platform

  • Or:

    WARNING

You're about to register your system with the RHN Certificate-based Entitlement Platform.
But, You're already registered with the RHN Classic Entitlement Platform.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.1 and later releases
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.7 and later releases
  • Red Hat Subscription Management
