Issue

  • How to disable "Shutdown" and "Restart" option in the System menu in GNOME Panel and gdm login screen on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 ?

  • Additionally, On RHEL6, using gconftool-2 to set /apps/gdm/simple-greeter/disable_restart_buttons true does not help in disabling power button from GDM login screen. Setting this key as Default, Mandatory and System has no effect, and the power buttons show up (and work) on the login screen. The only thing it seems to do is disable Ctrl-Alt-Backspace.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6
  • GNOME
  • gdm version 2.30.4-32 of later
