iSCSI connection fails intermittently with error "Kernel reported iSCSI connection 1:0 error (1011) state (1)"

Issue

  • The connectivity to iSCSI devices fails periodically and following error messages are getting logged in /var/log/messages files:

    Jan  2 18:17:24 node1 kernel: sd 5:0:0:6: timing out command, waited 30s
    Jan  2 19:23:26 node1 kernel:  connection1:0: detected conn error (1011)
    Jan  2 19:23:27 node1 kernel:  connection1:0: detected conn error (1011)
    Jan  2 19:23:27 node1 iscsid: Kernel reported iSCSI connection 1:0 error (1011) state (3)
    Jan  2 19:23:27 node1 iscsid: Kernel reported iSCSI connection 1:0 error (1011) state (1)
    
  • This issue continued even after disabling tcp_window_scaling as per the steps in solution 45167 and increasing the iSCSI initiator timeout values as per the solution 36141
