Graphical GDM Session over VNC dies after login

Try to login through GUI console, password is accepted but login screen just reappears, Gnome does not load

We have been trying to configure xlock on one of our redhat servers. However when the display variable is not set, we encounter the following error:
Error: Cannot open dispalay localhost:10.0
