How do I get RHEL 6, 7 or any RHEL content on my Red Hat Satellite Server?

Solution Verified - Updated -

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7
  • Red Hat Satellite 5.4 or above

Issue

  • How do I get Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6, 7 (RHEL6, RHEL7) content on my Red Hat Satellite server?
  • How to add channel on Satellite ?

Resolution

  • RHEL6 content is only available for Red Hat Satellite v. 5.4 or greater.
  • RHEL7 content requires Red Hat Satellite version 5.6 or greater.
  • To gain access to Red Hat Enterprise Linux content on your Satellite server, you will need to generate or request a new Satellite certificate.

  • You will also need to run satellite-sync to get the new content. If no options are included, satellite-sync synchronizes all channels that already exist in the Satellite's database but not newly added channels.

#satellite-sync --list-channels ( or -l option) ( lists the availble channels by label.)
#satellite-sync --channel option (option requires the channel label, not its name. For instance, "rhel-i386-as-3" is a channel label.)
