How to install the Red Hat build of OpenJDK

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • OpenJDK is provided in RPM form for RHEL users, but is also provided in zipped format for both RHEL and Windows users. Where can these be found?
  • We have installed OpenJDK using yum, but we don't find the binaries (tar/zip) for OpenJDK for Linux. Does Red Hat ship OpenJDK binaries in tar/zip format ?
  • We need to update a number of VMs to the latest OpenJDK for Java 8. Yum update only provides the 191 build for RHEL 7.x. I'm looking for a tar or gzip package that is portable which will allow us to install java-1.8.0-openJDK-1.8.0.191 on our 6.x systems.
  • Does Red Hat ship OpenJDK binaries in tar/zip format?
  • Is OpenJDK available as a zip bundle for Windows?
  • How do I get rpm distribution of OpenJDK 11, what repo, etc...?
  • Does RHEL provide 32-bit OpenJDK 11 and above?
  • we'd like to install Java OpenJDK versions for our customer as non RPM package. More like the archive version available under:
    https://access.redhat.com/jbossnetwork/restricted/listSoftware.html?product=core.service.openjdk&downloadType=distributions

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL)
  • Windows (64 bit)
