In RHEL 6, when using the "sync" NFS mount option, why is there UNSTABLE WRITE followed by a COMMIT RPC?

Issue

  • The client is mounting with the "sync" flag, is some number of asynchronous writes in concurrence with an equal number of "commit" transactions. Is this the expected behavior of NFS in this sort of configuration?

  • kernel 2.6.32-279 (RHEL 6.3)
  • kernel 2.6.32-358.6.1 (RHEL 6.4)
