How to adjust the CUPS retry interval for printing in RHEL

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • At a costumer we have wireless printers which are not always available in the network (for example they walk out of the WIFI range). We have set the printer options in CUPS to retry the jobs as error-policy. The default behaviour of CUPS is the following retry intervals (in seconds): 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30. After 30 CUPS keeps trying every 30 seconds to retry a printjob to the printer. Our costumer wants to retry the jobs faster, every 5 seconds for example.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL)
  • Common Unix Printing System (CUPS)
