Package updates change default time zone from UTC to EDT on RHEL

Solution Unverified - Updated -

Issue

  • Every time Red Hat puts out a glibc patch it replaces my /etc/localtime file and changes all of the clocks on my servers and workstations. We run everything in GMT/UTC. How can I hard code my machines to run in UTC that will not be affected by any glibc patches?

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6
