How to use `pam_cifscreds` with Red Hat Enterprise Linux

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • Users accessing a SMB share with NTLMSSP/NTLM security and the multiuser mount option have to authenticate to the SMB server with cifscreds
    • Authentication has to occur each time the user logs in.
    • Would like to use pam_cifscreds to avoid having to manually run cifscreds prior to accessing the SMB share.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8
  • CIFS/SMB
    • cifs-utils
    • pam_cifscreds
    • Non-Kerberized mounts
