Red Hat Enterprise Linux kdump not creating a vmcore file when inline comments are used in /etc/kdump.conf

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • When a crash is successfully initiated, kdump will create empty location directory for the vmcore file, but no vmcore

Example

/var/crash/127.0.0.1-2013-05-22-11\:24\:13/

However, no vmcore file will be created inside the location.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 6 with kexec-tools-2.0.0-273 and earlier.

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 5
