[RHEL6] 32-bit libraries are not installed on 64-bit OS by default

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • On RHEL6 x86_64, some 32-bit libraries, for example, glibc-2.12-1.2.el6.i686.rpm and its dependent packages, are not installed by default.
  • How to install 32-bit libraries on a 64-bit system
  • Applications using 32-bit libraries can't run on RHEL6 x86_64 without the required 32-bit libraries installed.
  • On RHEL5 x86_64, these libraries are installed automatically, so this RHEL6 behavior looks like a regression.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6
  • anaconda-13.21.82-1.el6
