Source IP address selection is different in RHEL7 compared to RHEL6 for local connections
Issue
- In RHEL6 and older, for a local connection, the source IP address always matches the destination IP address. But in RHEL7, the source IP is different; it is the primary IP address of the interface which has the destination IP address assigned. So if the destination IP address is a secondary IP, the source IP is different than expected.
- The source IP used by the system when connecting to a a local VIP is different under RHEL7 than it was in RHEL6.
Environment
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6
- Local IP routing
