Unable to run 'ypcat passwd' receives following message: "No such map passwd.byname. Reason: Can't communicate with portmapper"

'ypcat passwd' fails with following message on RHEL clients -
No such map passwd.byname. Reason: Can't communicate with portmapper -
Solaris clients can see the maps. RHEL clients can see NIS users but not the maps.
Environment
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5
- Solaris NIS server
