Why does the "dump" command fail on an NFS mount point?

Issue

  • While taking a backup from an NFS share, the dump command fails with the following error message:
dev/mapper/nfsvg-testlv: File not found by ext2_lookup while translating /NFS_mount
  • The dump and restore utility does not work while taking backup from NFS shares.
  • I can't dump a directory from the NFS mount point to a dump saveset.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (all versions)
  • dump command
  • NFS mount point as dump source.
