Why fencing doesn't work when ring1 name is used in stonith device `pcmk_host_list`/`pcmk_host_map` attribute?

Issue

  • Why using only ring1 name in pcmk_host_list doesn't work when trying the fence node and messages similar to following are observed in logs?

    node1 stonith-ng:   notice: stonith_choose_peer:    Couldn't find anyone to fence (reboot) node2 with any device
    
  • Can I use the ring1 or any other name for fencing the nodes?

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 with High-Availability or Resilient Storage Add-on
  • pacemaker cluster with RRP configured
