How do I set up log4j2 as a third party logging framework in EAP 7?

Issue

I want to set up log4j2 as a third party logging framework in EAP 7
For my use-case I am using a log4j2.xml configuration but I'm getting:

 ERROR StatusLogger No log4j2 configuration file found. Using default configuration: logging only errors to the console. Set system property 'log4j2.debug' to show Log4j2 internal initialization logging.
