How To Set Up CUPS For PASSTHRU Printing in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5

Issue

  • Created printer using the following command:

    lpadmin  -p <print queue name> -E -v socket://<fully qualified address>
    

    got the following entry in /etc/cups/printer.conf:

    <Printer NAME>
    Info NAME
    DeviceURI socket://<FQDN>
    State Idle
    StateTime 1358890291
    Accepting Yes
    Shared Yes
    JobSheets none none
    QuotaPeriod 0
    PageLimit 0
    KLimit 0
    OpPolicy default
    ErrorPolicy stop-printer
    </Printer>
    

    When jobs are sent to this printer, they sit in the print queue with the following message:

    lpstat -t <queue name>
    "recoverable: printer is busy, trying again in 30 seconds...."
