Migration benefits for RHEL 4 customers moving to RHEL 7

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4

Issue

Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 entered Extended Life Phase (ELP) on March 2012. During ELP, a Red Hat Enterprise Linux subscription provides continued access to previously released content on the Red Hat Customer Portal, as well as access to other content such as documentation and the Red Hat Knowledgebase. For versions of products in the ELP, Red Hat will provide limited ongoing technical support. No bug fixes, security fixes, hardware enablement or root-cause analysis will be available during this phase, and support will be provided on existing installations only. Red Hat reserves the right to terminate the ongoing support in the Extended Life Phase for a particular version of Red Hat Enterprise Linux at any time.

Resolution

Red Hat recommends that customers run software that is actively maintained in order to get the most benefit of bug fixes, security enhancements and other improvements. These benefits include:

  • New hardware enablement and improvements to currently certified components
  • Enhanced software functionally
  • Critical and Important Security errata advisories (RHSAs)
  • Urgent and Selected High Priority Bug Fix errata advisories (RHBAs)
  • Updated installation images
  • The option to purchase server add-on entitlements that include:
