Accessing a RHEL 7.4 Samba share fails with "NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE"

Issue

• I can not access a share on a RHEL7.4 samba share with some clients, when the same system was running RHEL7.3 before this was working:

[root@rhel6u3 ~]# smbclient -U chris //10.0.0.1/homes
Enter chris's password:
session setup failed: NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE
[root@rhel6u3 ~]# 

The same command, executed on a RHEL7.3 system, can access the share.
