Issue

  • Services defined in systemd using the Type=Notify and NotifyAccess=All settings are vulnerable to being inadvertently shut down by services using the same settings

  • Services defined in systemd not using the Type=Notify and NotifyAccess=All settings may print one of the following message in the journal (but there is no other consequence):

    Got notification message from PID xxx, but reception is disabled.
    Got notification message from PID xxx, but reception only permitted for main PID
    Got notification message from PID xxx, but reception only permitted for main PID which is currently not known
    

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 7, 8.0 and 8.1
  • systemd
  • Lack of free PIDs on the system
