Unable to activate swap partition after migrating the VMs from one host to other using NetBackup utility

Issue

  • We have been performing offline migration of VMs from one VMware host to another. This migration was successful for many VMs, but for 4 VMs we were getting following errors while trying to activate swap partition:

    [root@testhost ~]# swapoff /dev/sda2
swapoff: /dev/sda2: swapoff failed: Invalid argument

[root@testhost ~]# swapon /dev/sda2
swapon: /dev/sda2: read swap header failed: Invalid argument

[root@testhost ~]# swapon -a
swapon: cannot find the device for UUID=e14c966e-c769-419c-a5a7-12cc29ba1c25

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5, 6, 7
  • VMs configured in VMware Hypervisor
  • NetBackup
