LVS via Direct Routing is broken in initscripts-9.03.58

Solution Verified - Updated -

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 6.9, 7.4
  • initscripts-9.03.58
  • initscripts-9.49.39-1.el7

Issue

LVS via direct routing is now broken after upgrading initscripts to 9.03.58.

Resolution

  • RHEL 6: Update to initscripts-9.03.58-1.el6_9.2 shipped with Advisory RHBA-2017:2852 or newer.
  • RHEL 7: Update to initscripts-9.49.41-1.el7 shipped with Advisory RHBA-2018:0983 or newer.

Root Cause

Fix of Bug 1320366 changed initscripts behaviour so the ARP updates to neighbours on given network were sent unconditionally.

This update introduces the ARPUPDATE option for ifcfg-* files. The default value is yes; setting the value to no allows you to disable updating neighbouring computers using the Address Resolution Protocol (ARP) information about the current network interface controller. This is especially useful when using Linux Virtual Server (LVS) Load Balancing with direct routing enabled.
