ARP Cache does not flush entries after receiving gratuitious ARP

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • ARP Cache does not flush entries after receiving gratuitious ARP

  • When we switch between 2 NICs on a Firewall, which is default gateway (Checkpoint), it broadcasts a gratuitious ARP on the same subnet. Some servers seems to not clear the ARP entry and still keep the old MAC, the result is ping time out, the gateway is no more reachable.  "Arp -d old_mac" or network service restart solves this issue, but  it´s only a work arround.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.4
