Displayed memory usage in RHEV-M is always 0%

Solution Verified - Updated -

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization Manager (RHEV-M) 2.2, 3.0

Issue

  • Monitor and Virtual Machine tabs do not display used memory of virtual machine.

Resolution

RHEV-M can display memory/network usage only according to the guest agent's reports. This utility is installed in a guest machine and reports information back to the RHEV-M and allows the VM to be powered down cleanly from the AdminPortal or UserPortal:

  • Windows guests: Install the RHEV tools setup. The setup iso should be placed in an ISO domain so that Windows guests can mount it as a virtual CD-ROM. For RHEV 2.2, it can be downloaded from Download the "Guest Tools ISO" and for RHEV 3.0 and above, install the rhev-guest-tools-iso package, then copy the files from /usr/share/rhev-guest-tools-iso to the ISO domain.
  • Linux guests: Install the appropriate version of rhevm-guest-agent for RHEL 5 and RHEL 6 as well.
