Why only after upgrade to RHEL 7.2 kernel, server is dropping the incoming SYN packets ?

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • There is a hardware load balancer(F5 LB) with RFC1323 enabled which send packets to RHEL server with RHEL 7.2 kernel(kernel-3.10.0-327.22.2.el7) and RFC1323 option tcp_timestamps enabled (value = 1). In this topology, it is observed that RHEL server is dropping few incoming SYNs packets.
  • Above issue has started only after upgrading the kernel to RHEL 7.2 from RHEL 7.1. Booting the system back to RHEL 7.1 kernel eliminates the issue.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.2
  • kernel-3.10.0-327.22.2.el7
  • RFC1323 option tcp_timestamps
