The shutdown/reboot process hangs after displaying the message "Reached target Shutdown"

Issue

  • The system hangs repeatedly if the automount file systems are mounted. Here are the entries in the /etc/auto.direct on our test machine.
 $ more /etc/auto.direct
/mnt/home   node01:/home
/tmp/oracle node01:/var/opt/oracle
  • System did not go down even after waiting for 15 min.

Environment

  • Redhat Enterprise Linux 7.2
  • Autofs
