How to tell if system is Fedora, CentOS, Oracle (OEL/UEK), SUSE, or Red Hat Enterprise Linux?

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • We understand that Red Hat only supports Red Hat Enterprise Linux installs, but apparently some of the systems in our organization are Fedora, some are CentOS, some are Oracle Enterprise Linux (or have the UEK -- Oracle Unbreakable Kernel -- installed) , and some are SUSE Linux. How can we tell which are which?

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux
  • Fedora
  • CentOS
  • Oracle Enterprise Linux
  • Oracle Unbreakable Kernel
  • SUSE Linux
