Why does mii-tool or ethtool show "10Mbit half duplex" on bonded interface ?

Issue

Bond is setup using eth0 and eth1. mii-tool bond0 reports as 10mb half duplex . However both interfaces individually are reporting 1000Mbps via dmesg, ethtool and mii-tool. Why does bond0 reports a different speed/duplex ?
mii-tool reports 10 Mbit,half duplex speed on bonded interface. Is this expected ?
