BUG! Tx ring full when queue awake! error on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5

Solution Unverified - Updated -

Issue

  • The NIC hung and the system had to be rebooted.  The following was seen on the screeen and also appears in the logs.

    kernel: bnx2: eth0: BUG! Tx ring full when queue awake!
kernel: NETDEV WATCHDOG: eth0: transmit timed out
kernel: bnx2: fw sync timeout, reset code = 1020e13

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5
  • HP ProLiant DL380 G5
  • Broadcom Corporation NetXtreme II BCM5708 Gigabit Ethernet ( bnx2 driver)
