  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7
  • Btrfs File System

Issue

  • Btrfs is provided as a Technology Preview for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 and 7. Will it ever be fully supported?

Resolution

Technology Preview Deprecation Notice
Red Hat will not be moving Btrfs to a fully supported feature and it will be removed in a future major release of Red Hat Enterprise Linux.

The Btrfs file system was introduced as Technology Preview with the initial release of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 and Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7. As of versions 6.6 and 7.4 this technology has been deprecated.

The Btrfs file system received numerous updates from the upstream in Red Hat Enterprise Linux versions 6.0 through 6.6 and 7.0 through 7.4. It will remain available in Red Hat Enterprise Linux versions 6 and 7 however there will be no further updates to this feature.
