Why do I see the warning messages "qdisk cycle took more than X seconds to complete" in a RHEL cluster with a quorum device?

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • Qdisk logged some warning messages like this in /var/log/messages:
Sep 28 10:35:18 localhost qdiskd[14335]: <warning> qdisk cycle took more than 1 second to complete (1.390000)
Sep 28 10:35:23 localhost qdiskd[14335]: <warning> qdisk cycle took more than 1 second to complete (3.000000)
Sep 28 10:35:27 localhost qdiskd[14335]: <warning> qdisk cycle took more than 1 second to complete (1.690000)
Sep 28 10:35:31 localhost qdiskd[14335]: <warning> qdisk cycle took more than 1 second to complete (3.150000)
  • Why do we observe above quorum disk messages logged on cluster nodes?
  • In 2 node Red Hat High Availability cluster configured with qdisk(quorum disk), one node restarted unexpectedly. What could be a possible cause behind this sudden / automately reboot of cluster node?
  • Cluster node crashed intermediately, the cluster system does not detect a issue. We need know what is the root of this node crashes.
  • In two node GFS2 cluster, filesystem goes to hang and server/cluster node 2 evicted with unknown reason?

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 5 with the High Availability Add On
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 6 with the High Availability Add On
  • Cluster utilizing a Quorum Device (<quorumd> in /etc/cluster/cluster.conf)
