Error messages "kernel: i8042: probe of i8042 failed" on legacy-free hardware
Issue
The following error messages can be present in the system log:
kernel: i8042.c: Can't read CTR while initializing i8042.
kernel: i8042: probe of i8042 failed with error -5
kernel: mice: PS/2 mouse device common for all mice
What is their meaning and if there is an error which should be fixed?
Environment
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7
- Legacy-free hardware (for example, without PS/2 ports, only USB ports for keyboard and mouse)
