Set a password policy in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5

Issue

  • To set a password policy, the requirements are:
    • Requirement 1. The length of password should be at least 10
    • Requirement 2. The password should include upper case letter, lower-case letter, digital number, special symbol (such as !@#)
    • Requirement 3. To enforce the password restrictions
    • Requirement 4. Remember the history of password, and can not use the last six time's password.
    • Requirement 5. The password must be changed after 90 days
    • Requirement 6. The password can not be changed twice in the same day
    • Requirement 7. If the password will be expired in seven days, display a warning
    • Requirement 8. For a new created account, after the user login the system, needing to reset the initial password.
    • Requirement 9. After input wrong password for 5 times, lock the account.
