Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • CUPS error: /usr/lib/cups/backend/lpd stopped with status 1!`
  • Unable to process print jobs as communication appears to have been lost with a Networked UNIX (LPD) printer
  • We are able to add the printer using system-config-printer but are not able to print any files. The error is "/usr/lib/cups/backend/lpd failed"

  • One of the cups print queue keeps failing more often. Please find error below.

    #lpstat -p lp03
printer lp03 is idle. enabled since Wed 21 Oct 2015 09:40:57 AM CEST
            /usr/lib/cups/backend/lpd failed

  • In our production box we are getting the below error for two printers.

    "/usr/lib/cups/backend/lpd failed"

Whenever we resumed the printer after some time it got paused again with the above error.

  • We have one network printer that having issue/error while submitting job to an LPD printer. The log file /var/log/cups/error_log contains:
