Is there any need to run mcelog cron job on a VMware guest running RHEL?
Issue
- mcelog reads /dev/mcelog but would kernel write machine events to /dev/mcelog in VMware guest?
- Why mcelogd service doesn't start on boot up?

The mcelogd service doesn't start on boot up.

Error in syslog:
mcelog: mcelog read: No such device
mcelog: Cannot open logfile /var/log/mcelog: Permission denied
Environment
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5
