Why do I see "nslcd[XXXX]: [yyyyyy] ldap_search_ext() failed: Can't contact LDAP server"?

Issue

  • Why do I see the following in /var/log/messages
nslcd[XXXX]: [yyyyyy] ldap_search_ext() failed: Can't contact LDAP server
nslcd[XXXX]: [yyyyyy] no available LDAP server found, sleeping 1 seconds
  • We are seeing ldap_result() timed out messages from nslcd in /var/log/messages, and our LDAP server stops offering services to clients. Also ldapsearch fails when the issue happens.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6
  • nss-pam-ldapd
