Apache httpd start up reports the old version of OpenSSL even after updating OpenSSL package

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • We run JBoss EWS Apach httpd on RHEL 6 and have updated the OpenSSL package to 1.0.1, but httpd start up still shows OpenSSL 1.0.0 like:

[notice] Apache/2.2.22 (Unix) mod_ssl/2.2.22 OpenSSL/1.0.0-fips configured -- resuming normal operations

  • I updated the OpenSSL package to 1.0.2k but Apache httpd start up log message still shows the old version of OpenSSL like:

    [ssl:info] [pid 30696] AH01876: mod_ssl/2.4.6 compiled against Server: Apache/2.4.6, Library: OpenSSL/1.0.1e

Environment

  • Red Hat JBoss Enterprise Web Server (EWS) 2.x, 3.x
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL)
  • Apache httpd/mod_ssl
  • OpenSSL
