be2net Unrecoverable Error detected in the adapter

Solution Verified - Updated -

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.0
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.x
  • Red Hat Real Time kernel
  • be2net
  • HP blades

Issue

  • Following error occurred in server :
kernel: be2net 0000:04:00.3: Unrecoverable Error detected in the adapter
kernel: be2net 0000:04:00.3: Please reboot server to recover
kernel: be2net 0000:04:00.3: UE HIGH: PMEM bit set
kernel: be2net 0000:04:00.3: UE HIGH: TXPB bit set
kernel: be2net 0000:04:00.4: Unrecoverable Error detected in the adapter
kernel: be2net 0000:04:00.4: Please reboot server to recover
kernel: be2net 0000:04:00.4: UE LOW: MPU bit set
kernel: be2net 0000:04:00.4: UE HIGH: PMEM bit set
kernel: be2net 0000:04:00.4: UE HIGH: TXPB bit set
kernel: be2net 0000:04:00.4: UE HIGH: NETC bit set

Resolution

  • Upgrade NIC firmware to latest.
  • After cold reboot error messages disappear .
  • for HP blades:
    • Run the 'reset' command from the onboard administrator cli to reset the blade.
    • Or power cycle the entire blade chassis.

Root Cause

  • Known issue with be2net driver/firmware.
  • Customers using HP blades with an on-board be2net card have reported this. In this case after a reboot the kernel fails to recognise the be2net ports and bring them online.
