Many TIME_WAIT sockets are observed while running httpd with SSL and Internet Explorer
Issue
- Many sockets are observed to be in the TIME_WAIT state while using Apache's httpd web server together with SSL and Internet Explorer.
- The following in
/var/log/messages:
kernel: possible SYN flooding on port 80. Sending cookies
Environment
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux
- Apache httpd
- JBoss Enterprise Web Server 1.0.2 and earlier
